The 2023-24 winter season promises to be full of winter sports days: the whole of Valtellina has already welcomed the first snowfall, which silently tinged the villages, forests and ski slopes with white.
Ever since the first snowflakes fell, Livigno has been preparing for the arrival of winter, which will officially begin on 2 December with the opening of the lifts, kicking off a fun new season in which winter sports enthusiasts will be able to enjoy whole days exploring the ski area with over
115km of slopes.
To celebrate the current spectacular snow conditions, which to date see almost a metre of snow at altitude, Carosello 3000 has chosen to open two weeks earlier than planned: from Saturday 18 November, in fact, it will be possible to ski on the Polvere and Baby slopes and on the slopes served by the Federia lift, by purchasing the "early pass" day ticket at the lift ticket office.
In addition, since the end of October, the cross-country slope has been open, built using the snowfarming technique, an innovative method of snow preservation that, through the use of reusable wood wool mats and geothermal sheets, protects the snow collected during the previous winter from summer temperatures to limit its melting, so that it can be reused during the following winter season. Open every day, it hosts training sessions for athletes and national teams every morning, while from 12 noon it is open to all fans of the discipline. It is currently 3.4 km long, but the aim is to reach its full length - i.e. 35 km - by 17 December, the date on which one of the first competitive events of the winter season will be held, namely the famous cross-country race in free technique 'La Sgambeda', which every year sees professionals and amateurs competing.
Non-skiers who want to enjoy the fresh snow, on the other hand, can choose to undertake the Mountain Walk starting from the arrival point of the Carosello 3000 cableway, suitable for everyone and perfect for enjoying a panoramic view while walking on the beaten snow. Otherwise, it is possible to venture out with snowshoes (also known as 'snowshoes') on the four 'managed trails' currently open, namely Valle delle Mine, Baitel da Plascianet, Plazec and Latteria: these are beaten paths, created by the freeride project team in areas close to the ski lifts and constantly monitored, which allow you to admire the beauty of the area's nature up close, even quieter thanks to the blanket of immaculate snow that has enveloped Little Tibet.
