The landscape is changing guise: autumn colours are giving way to cold temperatures, the first snowflakes and ice covering the valley's streams and lake... Clear signs that the favourite season for winter sports enthusiasts is about to begin again.
And so the top resort in Valtellina is ready to welcome a new winter full of appointments not to be missed for lovers of this season.
Kicking off the new winter season is the opening of the cross-country track, created thanks to the technique of snowfarming, an innovative method of snow preservation that, through the use of reusable wooden wool mats and geothermal sheets, protects the snow collected during the previous winter from summer temperatures to limit its melting, so that it can be reused during the following winter season.
This year, the cross-country skiing ring will be opened at the end of October, giving all sports teams and fans to train at high altitude and have fun on real snow.
On the other hand, 2 December is the time of year that skiers, snowboarders and winter sports enthusiasts have been waiting for: it is the official date of the opening of the lifts, which kicks off several months in which to experience the magic of winter in the snow while admiring a truly sensational panorama.
Directly accessible from the village the more than 115 km of trails are divided into 74 wide and sunny slopes, with different levels of difficulty: the ideal place both for families wishing to spend a few days of fun while the little ones discover all the secrets of snow sports, as well as for professionals and amateurs who want to put themselves to the test and spend an adrenalin-fuelled day on the slopes. of adrenaline.
In just three years, these very slopes will be among the protagonists of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics, which will host athletes competing in the disciplines of snowboarding and freestyle.
In addition, for this year the Skipass Free promotion will be active from 2 to 22 December, allowing all those who stay in affiliated hotels or flats (for at least 4 or 7 nights, up to a maximum of 14 nights) to obtain a free ski pass. The package can be purchased by booking directly at the hotel or on the website livigno.eu.
For kids born from 1999 to 2007, there is a new feature: with the YOUTH promotion, in fact, you can buy the daily ski pass at a reduced price.
On 17 December, on the other hand, La Sgambeda, the classic cross-country race in the central plain of Livigno, returns, for more than 30 years, confirms to be one of the most awaited events by all cross-country skiers: the athletes will compete on a 35-kilometre track to be tackled in free technique, using all the facilities of the Livigno Cross-Country Ski Centre.
Moreover, this year the Christmas Village, open every day from 10.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., from 24 November will bring a magical Christmas atmosphere to the centre of Livigno, making it a real enchanted village made up of
small wooden houses decorated with coloured lights. Throughout the Advent period, one can let oneself be enveloped
by the aromas emanating from typical local products - such as roasted chestnuts, hot chocolate, sweets and mulled wine - while you discover the unique creations of Livigno's craftsmen.
